About the Business
Buen Provecho took over the former Lupe’s space at 3rd Street and Promenade in Downtown Long Beach. It’s a slight melding of Latino American cultures: Largely Mexican. A handful of Puerto Rican and other influences. Buen Provecho aims for one thing: To highlight the Latino influence on SoCal culture, life, and food. This is for the Latino kids who straddle the line between where their immigrant parents were born and their distinctly American upbringing.
The menu spans everything from rich birria dishes and carne asada plates to seafood-forward offerings, brunch favorites, and chef-driven specialties that fuse traditional family recipes with contemporary technique. Cocktails are equally central to the experience, with mezcal-heavy creations, spicy margaritas, tropical spritzes, and house syrups helping transform the restaurant into one of Downtown’s most popular social spaces.
But Buen Provecho’s biggest draw may be its unmistakable sense of spectacle. On many nights, the restaurant evolves into a full-fledged celebration of Mexican culture, regularly hosting live mariachi performances, Vicente Fernández impersonators, themed nights, DJs, and packed weekend events that blur the line between dinner service and entertainment venue. The energy is intentionally immersive—more family fiesta than quiet dining room—with guests often singing along to rancheras while sipping cocktails beneath the glow of Downtown nightlife. It’s the kind of place where birthdays become parties, casual dinners stretch late into the evening, and every corner of the restaurant feels designed for celebration.
That entertainment-forward philosophy has also helped Buen Provecho become increasingly involved in cocktail competitions, guest bartending showcases, and collaborative events that highlight Long Beach’s growing food-and-drink scene. Hernandez’s concept embraces the idea that Mexican cuisine extends beyond the plate, creating an experience rooted equally in music, hospitality, cocktails, and communal energy.
