About the Business

In the heart of Downtown Long Beach’s Atlantic Avenue, Olive & Rose has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting new bistro-style restaurants in the city. Opened in late 2024 by Long Beach siblings Chef Philip Pretty and his sister and business partner Lauren Michaelis, the restaurant builds on their reputation for thoughtful hospitality and deeply considered cuisine.
Philip — already celebrated for earning Long Beach its first Michelin star with previous projects — brings a refined yet relaxed culinary voice to Olive & Rose. The menu reflects his commitment to vibrant flavor, classical technique and a sustainability-minded approach that minimizes waste and highlights the best of local seasonal ingredients.
Lauren, who co-owns and operates the restaurant alongside her brother, ensures that the hospitality and guest experience feel as personal as the food. Together, they’ve envisioned Olive & Rose as a neo-bistro: a space where classic French influences meet unmistakable California freshness and relaxed warmth.
While Pretty provides the culinary direction, much of the day-to-day creativity of Olive & Rose is shaped by Chef de Cuisine Patrick Claytor. A key driving force behind the kitchen, Claytor translates the restaurant’s seasonal ethos into thoughtful, expressive dishes — from delicately seared proteins to composed plates that balance texture and brightness. Diners regularly praise the kitchen’s ability to maintain high flavors with elegant simplicity.
The space itself — with its covered patio and open-air vibe — invites relaxed evenings that feel both special and familiar. Whether guests come for elevated dinner plates or inventive cocktails, the experience is deeply anchored in hospitality that feels local and genuine.
In a city that’s increasingly known for creative, community-driven restaurants, Olive & Rose stands out as a project rooted in family, culinary sophistication, and a clear sense of belonging — a welcome addition to Long Beach’s ever-evolving table.
